It was New Year’s Eve and I was working all day. It was busy but I was looking forward to that evening because I was going to a fancy dress party at my neighbours.

   The week before Peter, Elizabeth and I went to a fancy dress shop in Hyde to find an outfit. I tried on some long medieval dresses but they did not fit very well. I was giving up hope of finding an outfit. I wanted to look my best for the party, so I had to get a good outfit.  

    The lady in the shop brought a dress out.  She said it was a Western bar dress. I was not sure, but she said try it on first. I put it on and she zipped it up and I liked it a lot more. The lady told me She’d got some accessories to go with the dress, a red feather boa for round my neck and a headband in black with a big black feather on it.

The dress had red sequins on the top with black and stripes on the arms. It had a full skirt going down to the hem with a black lace underskirt to make it look fuller.

I came out of the changing room, and Peter and Elizabeth said it was great. I said I would take it. I bought same ankle boots to wear with the dress, and black tights.

It was going to be a great New Year’s Eve party. My husband’s outfit was a white naval uniform with white gloves and a hat, black shoes and also cool sunglasses. We had to laugh because we all said we could hire him out as a male stripper at the weekend. Lee my son was going as James Bond 007.  He wore a black dinner suit my brother in law gave him because he’d grown too big for it. Elizabeth got a genie outfit in light purple. She looked great in it and she was hoping the boy across the road would turn up at the party.  She’s got a crush on him, its hard being fourteen and in love.

It’s the night of the party, we all need some fun in our life. Peter’s best friend Chris was staying the night. He walked in our house in a big furry grey and white dog outfit. My own dog Bobby growled at him till he took his dog head off - he knows Chris well.

We all went to Nicky’s house for the party. She lives with her friend Lisa. Nicky was dressed as a nurse, Lisa was Ellie May and one of her friend was a Chinese Lady. Mandy, Lisa’s friend, went as Cher and Mandy, my younger sister, went as a schoolgirl. Three boyfriends of Lisa and Nicky and Cher wore shirts and pants. Boring boring.

Later on more of their friends came to the party. Every one had a good time dancing and drinking. Lee drank too much and I took him home at five to twelve, and I went back to let the New Year in. Everyone got a kiss and there were fireworks going off outside. I kept going back home to check on Lee he was fast asleep.

I stayed up till three thirty, then we came home to bed, we all had a great time. Here’s to a Happy New Year for everyone. Oh before I forget, the boy across the road did not come to the party but Elizabeth still enjoyed herself anyway.
