Introduction
A
lot of people feel that they need to lose weight, particularly after Christmas
time so they join weight loss programs and do a lot more exercise.
There is one weight loss program in particular which is called Weight
Watchers.
History
Weight
Watchers is a worldwide weight loss program. A woman called Jean Nidetch
first started it in America in the early 1960s. It has helped millions of
people to lose weight successfully over the years.
Philosophy
At Weight Watchers it is believed that to maintain a healthy, long-term weight loss is to be approached by following a diet that is well balanced and interesting to eat. It should let you include all the things that you enjoy eating and should fit easily with your lifestyle. You should also gradually increase the amount of exercise that you do. It is also a good idea to get encouragement and support, to help you along the way.
Explanation
of Weight Watchers
What
are pure points?
Pure
points are an effective way of losing weight, based on a system unique to Weight
Watchers. If you are losing weight on a points system you do not have to
weigh food or count calories you are allowed a certain number of points per day.
How do we calculate these uncomplicated points?
At
Weight Watchers they have a pure points finder that helps you to find out how
many points there are in what food you would like to eat. For instance
when you look on the back of a product it tells you how many grams of saturated
fats there are. Then you get your point’s finder. Calculate the
saturated fats into the point’s finder. It will tell you how many points
there are in that product.
When you first start at Weight Watchers you will have to fill in a registration form. Then you will have to pay your registration fees but sometimes through out the year, registration is free, especially after Christmas. Your leader will then weigh you and ask what weight you would like to be.
Your
leader will discuss with you what weight she thinks you should aim for.
Your weight will be private and confidential. Every leader who runs
these meetings are weight loss achievers themselves.
During
the first part of the meeting everybody is weighed separately. This
usually lasts about thirty minutes and then the meeting takes place. The
meeting also lasts thirty minutes. You also have the chance to talk to
other members and you could even meet new friends.
Every
week they have successes and they celebrate. Once you’re into the swing
of things you will understand the changes you need to make to be successful in
losing weight.
Who
runs the meetings?
People
who run Weight Watchers meetings are very understanding people because they also
have had a weight problem and struggled to lose weight. They are
achievers. They are a good example to the clients.
Weight
Watchers leaders are well trained to help you lose weight. They keep you
motivated to succeed and make you feel part of a very committed group.
They also keep you well informed on the latest information.
