Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) |
| What is ECDL? ECDL is a practical certificate for IT users that is recognised across Europe and now in other continents as the ICDL. It has become the most popular IT qualification in many countries. UK citizens have been taking ECDL in ever increasing numbers since it was first available here in 1998. In this country, the Driving Licence is operated by the British Computer Society. |
| How do I take a test? You can contact any test centre to arrange a suitable date and time for the test. Remember to take your log book so the test centre can record any modules that you successfully complete. |
| What does it cost? You will need to contact your local test centre. Charges for unit tests will vary according to how you are studying for ECDL. |
| How can I check my
skills? This site contains a Skills Checklist to enable you to identify any skills gaps. The site also has a link to practice tests for the modules so you can try out your skills. |
| How can I improve my
skills? It does not matter how you get the skills required for ECDL. Many test centres offer facilities for training as well as testing. You may be able to join a course leading to ECDL at a college or other centre. You may be able to access training through your employer. You can also use learning packages such as supplied on CD-ROM or teach yourself books. You will need to have access to suitable software to practise the skills as you learn them. |
| Does it matter what
software I have? ECDL is not designed for any particular software packages. You will need software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases and graphics or presentation. You will also need software for using the Internet and sending e-mail. The software packages you use must be capable of all the tasks listed in the syllabus. |
