Module 2 Using the Computer and Managing Files

This module tests knowledge of the basic housekeeping functions required for the efficient use of the computer.

You will need to show that you know how an operating system can be used as well as understand and perform normal operations.

1  Computer Environment
  • Start the computer.
  • View system information
  • Change settings
  • Use Help 
  • Format media.
  • Use a text editor 
  • Shut down the computer properly
2  Desktop 
  • Manage windows and icons
  • Create shortcuts.
3  Managing files
  • Understand the use of directories and directory structure.
  • Create folders and sub-folders.
  • Extract information on files in a directory, the size of files and the date files were created or updated.
  • Identify file types.
  • Rename files and folders.
  • Select files
  • Move and copy files.
  • Delete files and folders.
  • Back up data files.
  • Use Find to locate files according to type, date or location.
4  Viruses
  • Understand virus issues
  • Use virus scanning software 
5  Print Management 
  • Select different printers.
  • Print from an installed printer.
  • View status of print tasks.
