This module requires you to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of spreadsheets and a sound knowledge of the functions of a spreadsheet application. You will carry out common operations such as creating a spreadsheet, carrying out calculations and creating charts.

1  Using the Application 
  • Open and close existing spreadsheets 
  • Create new spreadsheets
  • Save spreadsheets in various file formats 
  • Use Help functions
  • Change display modes
  • Modify toolbar display 
  • Freeze and unfreeze titles 
  • Set options
2  Cells 
  • Enter data – Numbers, text and dates
  • Enter symbols
  • Delete data 
  • Select data: contiguous and non contiguous
  • Copy data within the spreadsheet and to other spreadsheets
  • Use Search and Replace
  • Insert and delete rows and columns
  • Modify column width and row height 
  • Use Autofill to copy formulae and values
  • Sort the data in the spreadsheet
3  Worksheets
  • Insert and delete worksheets
  • Rename worksheets
  • Copy and move worksheets within and between spreadsheets
4  Formulas and Functions  
  • Enter formulae
  • Use the basic arithmetical functions
  • Use functions: SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN, COUNT, IF
  • Understand and use absolute and relative cell referencing in formulae
  • Recognise error messages
5  Formatting 
  • Format cells - e.g. size, decimal points, currency, etc.
  • Change text size, font, colour, orientation etc
  • Use Bold, Underline etc 
  • Use alignment options, text wrapping, rotating
  • Create borders around cells 
  • Create headers and footers
6 Charts/Graphs 
  • Produce different types of charts and graphs from spreadsheet figures to analyse the data
  • Edit and format the charts
  • Change chart type
  • Resize, move and copy charts
  • Delete charts
7 Prepare Outputs  
  • Change Page Setup options
  • Create and modify headers and footers
  • Check and preview a spreadsheet
  • Print a spreadsheet or part of a spreadsheet
