This module requires knowledge of the meaning of electronic communication and how communications software is used. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of networking concepts, your ability to use electronic mail and network information services.

1  The Internet 
  • Understand concepts and terminology.
  • Understand the make-up and structure of a Web address.
  • Know about Search Engines and how they are used
  • Change the Web browser Home Page
  • Use Refresh and Stop buttons.
  • Use application Help functions.
  • Change view/display modes.
  • Modify toolbar display.
  • Display images on Web page.
  • Display browsing history.
  • Delete browsing history.
2  Web navigation
  • Open a URL and browse the site
  • Use a hyperlink or image link 
  • Use Back and Forward buttons
  • Complete a web based form.
  • Use bookmarks 
3  Web Searching
  • Select search engines
  • Search the Web using keywords and logical operators 
  • Copy text and images from web pages to a document. 
  • Save text, image etc as a file
  • Print components of a Web page.
  • Modify page setup and print options. 
4 Electronic Mail 
  • Understand structure of an email address
  • Understand email issues such as netiquette, advantages of email, virus issues, security, signatures etc.
  • Open an electronic mail application.
  • Open a mail inbox for a specified user.
  • Open a mail message.
  • Use application Help functions.
  • Change display modes.
  • Modify toolbar display.
5  Messaging
  • Read messages
  • Flag messages as read/unread.
  • Save attachments
  • Reply to messages
  • Forward messages.
  • Create mail messages with To, CC, Title and text
  • Attach files
  • Change message priority
  • Use spell checker
  • Edit and delete text within a message
  • Copy text between messages
  • Delete attachments
  • Add, edit and delete addresses in address book
  • Create and use mail groups or lists
6  Message Management
  • Modify mail group or list.
  • Add and delete addresses from address book.
  • Search for messages
  • Create folders
  • Move messages to folders
  • Sort messages by name and date.
  • Delete messages
  • Empty wastebasket.  
  • Preview and print messages.
