Your task is to format a garden centre information leaflet that provides instructions about caring for plants. The information sheet is in draft format and needs to be improved before it is sent out. 

You will need to download a number of files to your candidate disk before you start the test. 

  1. Right click here and save the file test1.doc to your candidate disk. 
  2. Right click here and save the file address.doc  to your candidate disk. 
  3. Right click here and save the file plant.jpg to your candidate disk. 

    

Tasks 

1. Locate and open the document test1. Save the document to your Candidate Disk using the file name garden4

2. Select all the text in the document and change the font to Times New Roman.

3. Change the orientation of the entire document to Portrait. 

(1 Mark)

4. Fully justify the text of the leaflet. 

(1 Mark)

5. Format the main heading using style Heading 1. 

(1 Mark)

6. Centre the main heading 

(1 Mark)

7. Change the left and right margins of the document to 4 cms. 

(1 Mark)

8. The leaflet needs to be spaced out more. Insert a blank line after the heading Gardening Tips in Spring. Remove the blank line before 'Complete all pruning ….'

9. Apply the font colour green to the line of text 'Send your tips to Ally at the London office'

10. Create a 1 point border around this line of text.

11. Indent the first paragraph starting, A weekly information … to start at 1 cm from both margins.

22. Copy the heading 'Gardening for Amateurs' from the first page to the top of the new page. Ensure that the style of the text remains the same.

23. Insert the image plant.jpg into the document below the heading on the second page and resize the image so it has a height of 6 cms

24. Use automatic page numbering to insert a right aligned page number at the bottom of each page.

25. Use a spell check program and make changes if necessary. (Proper names are not included in this spell checking and may be ignored).

26. Save the garden document and print 1 copy to an output printer if available, or as a print file with the file name garden.prn to your Candidate Disk.

27. Copy the text on page 1 and the table to a new word processing document.

28. Save the new document to your disk using RTF format and a file name of garden4a

29. Your customers' address details are contained in a file called address.doc. Locate and open this file. Add the details of a new customer Ms A Curzon, 151 Long Street, Danchester, D45 9NB to this file. Close any open files making sure that all changes are saved.

Module 3 Sample Test 2 (syllabus version 4) 

You are employed by a training company. Your task is to format a mailshot letter to advertise courses for local businesses. The letter is in draft format and needs to be improved before it is sent out. You will then create letters using the company client database.

You will need to download a number of files to your candidate disk before you start the test. 

  1. Right click here and save the file test2.doc to your candidate disk. 
  2. Right click here and save the file test2a.doc  to your candidate disk. 
  3. Right click here and save the file address.doc  to your candidate disk. 

 

Tasks

1. Start your word processor and open the document test2. Save the document using the file name mailshot4 to your candidate disk.

2. Select all the text in the document and change the font to Times New Roman size 12.

(1 Mark)

3. Fully justify the text of the document.

(1 Mark)

4. Add a date field on the top line of the letter using the format DD MMMM YYYY

(1 Mark)

5. Format the title Will your business survive in today's economic climate? using style Letter Title

(1 Mark)

6. Set the title line so it has 6 point spacing above and 12 point spacing below.

7. Change the top margin of the letter to 3.5 cms.

8. Add the text Make sure your business isn't one of them so it becomes the last sentence of the first paragraph.

9. In the second paragraph, create a new paragraph starting with the text Delegates take away ...

10. Move the paragraph beginning 'Demand for courses is expected to be heavy' so it becomes the final paragraph.

11. Add your name before the line containing Training manager. Make sure that the spacing remains the same.

12. Add a header of your name and the text Training for Business on separate lines.

13. Bullet the list of offerings.

14. Change the bullet to a tick symbol.

15. Use the automatic numbering facility to insert a centred page number at the foot of the document.

16. At the end of the letter, leave a blank line then type the word Enc on a new line.

17. Insert a page-break after the word Enc.

18. On the second page, insert the following text in Arial 12 point: Booking Form

19. Apply the font colour Blue to this line of text

20. Set a tab stop so this text starts 2 cm from the left margin.

21. After this text, insert a table with 3 rows and 2 columns with the following information

22. Change the width of column 2 to 9 cms.

23. Under the table, insert an image file from a clipart library.

(1 Mark)

24. Adjust the picture so it is 5 cms high by 5 cms wide.

25. Use the Spell checker to find and correct any spelling errors. (Proper names are not included in this spell checking). Save the document.

26. Print the first page of the document.

(1 Mark)

27. The letter is now complete and is to be used as a Form Letter for a mail merge. Save the document. You will now need to remove the existing name and address details at the top of the letter. The customers' names and addresses are contained in a file named address.doc. Locate the file and carry out a mail merge.

28. Save the merged letter as merged mailshot4. Save and close all open documents.

29. Open the document test2a and save it in template form on your candidate disk. Use the file name  test2atemplate
