Hey Teacher, leave those kids alone .... and let them get on with self-directed learning

SAC Usage
- Teacher led sessions
Classes will be timetabled into the Self Access Centre at least once a week. During this time the teacher can conduct classes in a variety of ways.
  1. Practice/revision/extension of language areas covered in class.
For example a teacher might have done a reading exercise from Headway. The reading, vocabulary and structures could be revised in the SAC, paper based, web based or CDROM based
    suggestions/examples
  2. Teacher led web based activities.
A teacher might decide that they would like to extend the students and provide "authentic" input. See below for some links to suitable sites.
  3. Teacher led "self directed" learning.
Alternatively you could encourage students to develop awareness of self-directed learning and gain confidence in working on their own by offering a class where they are free to work on what they like but have you there to support them.

Some Web Sites that might be useful.

The Compleat Lexical Tutor (sic) is a very interesting site which could be well utilised if an Instructor is present as well. The site consists of a series of diagnostic vocabulary tests, a corresponding series of vocabulary lists, and a concordance and dictionary to help students explore the words on these lists.

The address is: http://132.208.224.131/

The instructions provide a good overview that might be useful to show the students first - http://132.208.224.131/instructions.htm
