The Manchester College Library Catalogue

List of books, audio tapes, music CDs, video tapes and other resources available in the College Library.

Resources not available at your site can be easily supplied through inter-site loan; ask a member of the Library staff if you would like to use this service.

You can log in to your library account by clicking the button on the bottom left of the screen; you will then be asked for your user barcode (the id number from your student card.) Once you have your account opened you can see which books you have on loan, when they are due back and (if they are not late) there is a facility to extend their loan period.

Using the Library

A brief explanation of how the Library is organised using the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme.

There is also a list of the main numbers in the scheme to help you find your way easily round any Library.

John Rylands University Library

The John Rylands University Library houses over 4 million printed items and the largest collection of electronic resources in the United Kingdom.

Students on a wide range of courses are able to use the library for reference purposes as part of the University Widening Participation programme. Access is available after 4pm on weekdays and all weekend opening hours and vacation periods. There is no access during the University examination period in May.

Students on Manchester University validated courses (eg The Arden degree courses in Acting Studies and Musical Theatre Studies and Post-Graduate Writing for Performance) have both borrowing and reference rights and can use the library during all opening hours.

Students from both groups should request a supporting letter from their Learning Centre Co-ordinator. They will need to take this to the Membership team at John Rylands University Library on Oxford Road, where they will be asked to complete an application form. They will be able to collect their membership card several days later, and should present this card every time they visit the university library.

Manchester Public Libraries

All students of The Manchester College are entitled to use Manchester's public libraries even if they do not live within Greater Manchester.

They will need to provide proof of their status; student identity cards are usually enough but Learning Centre Co-Ordinators can also supply letters of authorisation if necessary.
