The websites for Hairdressing are listed on a seperate page.
Online Resources
Hairdressing Training
Several haircuts are featured witha photographic step-by-step guide, a quick textual guide and a few simple questions to test your understanding of the material. The lessons section of the site covers much of the theory behind the haircuts, whilst the products section looks at the equipment and hair care products that the student will need to know as part of their education. This is an ideal reference resource for students on the NVQ Level 2 course. (Login with Athens when you are off site.)
Gale Databases
The College Library subscribes to a large number of electronic journals and magazines through a service called 'Gale Databases'. If you have never used 'Gale Databases' and need help here is a short user guide.

How to use the Internet
The Intute Virtual Training Suite provides free Internet tutorials to help you learn how to get the best from the Web for your education and research. The tutorials are written and updated by a team of subject specialists based in universities and colleges across the UK. Click the list of tutorials and then chose the one that interests you, or have a look at the Internet Detective which will also help you to evaluate the reliability and usefulness of web pages.
Athens
Some of the Learning centre's electronic resources will require you to log in using the Athens validation service. (Especially if you use them outside College.) You will need an Athens username and password to do this. Obtain an "Athens Student Logon Request Form" from your Learning Centre; complete and return the form. You will receive notification of your account through your TMC student e mail.
Words used in assignments
The words used when questions or assignments are set can be confusing if you are not used to them. This list explains what tutors and examiners are looking for and what you should write about.
If you need to make a 2 or 3 column leaflet in Word these simple instructions will explain what you need to do.
