Open a new Word document.

On the File menu go to Page Setup

Select the Margins tab and change the Top, Bottom, Left and Right margins to 0.63 inches or 1.63 cm.

Also on the margins tab change the Orientation to Landscape then click OK.

On the Format menu Select Columns and in the Number of Columns box enter 2, 3 or more, or select the correct icon.

In the Spacing box enter twice the size of the margins that you used earlier. So if the margins are set at 1.63 cm the Spacing is 3.26 cm. Now click on OK. (The Spacing is twice the size of the Margin so that when your leaflet is folded the space around each column is 1.63 cm.)

Text will flow from the bottom of one column to the top of the next column automatically. But if you need to go into another column before filling the previous one insert a Column Break. To do this go to the Insert menu, select Break and click OK. The cursor will jump to the top of the next column.

At the end of the last column text will flow automatically onto the next page.  If you need to start a new page before filling the previous one insert a Page Break.

From the Insert menu select Break, then Page Break and click OK. The cursor will now jump to the top of the first column on a new page.

To insert a box across the columns click the drawing command on the word toolbar. (It shows a triangle, cylinder and cube.)

From the bottom of the page select the rectangle tool and draw your rectangle by clicking the left-hand mouse button and dragging across the page. When you release the mouse button the rectangle will appear. Use the little square handles to adjust the size of your box.

To type in the box use the text box tool. (On the bottom toolbar, a small page of text with the letter “A” on it.) Now type in your text.

When you are typing your leaflet you must remember that the right-hand column is the front page and the centre column will be the back page of the leaflet when it is folded! (To see why this is so, open out a similar leaflet and lay it flat. You can then see how the pages relate to each other.)
